Climate Change, Equality Migration and Gender
Dear friends,
As the reality of the climate crisis continues to impact people and communities around the world, we have seen an increasing and important space opening up for understanding and strategizing around the links between gender, migration and climate justice.
The climate crisis is inextricably tied to human movement, and is rapidly changing who is moving, where they are moving from and to, and what compounded barriers exist along the way. From the impacts of disasters like hurricanes, to slow-onset impacts like drought, climate change is already influencing the numbers of internally displaced people, cross-border migrants and refugees around the world. It is critical that we contextualize this analysis with our understanding of the root causes of climate change like extractivism, capitalism, patriarchy and white supremacy. We know the work for migrant justice is directly linked to gender justice and climate justice.
